Avv. Maria Letizia Galati

Criminal lawyer, member of the Catania Bar since 1996, admitted to practice before the Supreme Court.

Specialist in crimes against the Public Administration, medical professional negligence, and workplace accidents, as well as in food criminal law and offences against property and the economy.

She has particular expertise in corporate criminal liability under Legislative Decree no. 231/2001. Within her law firm, she has established a dedicated team and provides consultancy and training on compliance with D. Lgs. 231, including the implementation of organizational models and the management of Supervisory Bodies.

For eight years, she directed the course on ethics and advocacy techniques for criminal lawyers, serving as head of the School of the Criminal Lawyers Association of Catania.

She has also served as an adjunct lecturer at the “Antonino Galati” School for Legal Professions and Specializations at the University of Catania, Faculty of Law.

Born in Catania in 1979, he qualified to practice law in 2008. In 2010, he obtained a PhD in European Criminal Policies from the University of Catania and Université Paul Cézanne Aix-Marseille III – Faculty of Law and Political Science of Aix-en-Provence–Marseille.

He is the author of several technical publications in the field of criminal law and criminal procedure. He collaborates with the Chair of Criminal Procedure (course A–L) at the Faculty of Law of the University of Catania and serves as a tutor at the Catania School of Legal Practice.

He provides legal advice and defense services, both in and out of court, to individuals and legal entities across all areas of criminal law.

He has practiced law exclusively in the field of criminal law, dealing with all its aspects and gaining significant and highly qualified professional experience, particularly in crimes against the person, medical negligence, offences against the Public Administration, corporate crimes, bankruptcy offences, tax crimes, environmental crimes, and workplace safety matters.

Admitted to practice before the Supreme Court since 2017, he has developed substantial experience, including representing clients before the Joint Sections of the Court of Cassation in 2024, achieving a notable result concerning the “acquittal of the defendant on the merits at the appeal stage, following an appeal limited to civil effects, despite the statute of limitations having expired” (Court of Cassation, Joint Criminal Sections, judgment no. 36208/24).

He has participated in numerous conferences on financial and tax violations, medical liability, workplace safety, and corporate organization, continuously deepening his expertise in issues related to business management, corporate criminal law, financial offences, and safety regulations, as well as medical liability (including healthcare safety in relation to the Coronavirus “COVID-19”).

He provides consultancy services to companies, handling legal and safety-related aspects, and contributes to the drafting of corporate organizational models pursuant to Legislative Decree no. 231/2001, as well as workplace health and safety protocols related to the Coronavirus (“COVID-19”).

She has gained solid experience in criminal law, with particular specialization in medical professional liability and corporate criminal law. Her practice includes both out-of-court and courtroom representation, providing legal assistance to both defendants and civil parties.

She is an expert consultant in corporate administrative liability, offering her expertise in the drafting and implementation of Organizational, Management and Control Models pursuant to Legislative Decree no. 231/2001, serving on Supervisory Bodies, and delivering corporate training on compliance with Decree 231.

For the 2025–2027 term, she serves as Regional Vice Coordinator of the Italian Young Lawyers Association (AIGA), President of the AIGA Catania Section, and member of the AIGA National Department on “231 and Corporate Compliance.”

She is also a member of the Criminal Law Study Commission, the Bioethics and Biolaw Study Commission, and the Young Lawyers Commission of the Catania Bar Association.

She collaborates in the drafting and updating of Organizational, Management and Control Models pursuant to Legislative Decree no. 231/2001, aimed at preventing predicate offences.

She is involved in risk identification and mapping activities, the development of internal protocols and control procedures, and the implementation of effective compliance systems.
